ABOUT

 © Ruxandra Connolly

I don't shoot, I write photographic short stories.

I am a self-taught photographer and arts marketer with over ten years' experience in the creative sector, based in London / Brentwood, UK.

Born in Bucharest, I moved to London in 2010 to complete a MA in Cultural & Creative Industries at King's College London with a thesis that explored the contemporary online movement of women’s photographic self-portraits and self-representations, drawing on photography and gender studies.

My love for photography developed strangely from my immersion into creative writing, while being a teenager. Photography helps me add a new dimension to my stories, that words are sometimes too stubborn to capture.

For me photography is not about the type of camera or lenses I'm using, rather about playing with natural light and capturing neglected visual details and the ephemeral composition of volatile moments.

Over the past few years I worked with a variety of creative professionals and charities including Spitalfields Music and Refugee Council.

I am currently working on a long-term personal project profiling creative women and investigating how they define and challenge the very notion of creativity and how they relate themselves to a certain creative purpose. If you are a woman active in the creative sector (in your day job or outside of it) and would like to take part in the project please get in touch.

Maternity, family & event photography

My style is defined by a natural, documentary approach to photography and my aim is to provide you with images that are unique to you and reflect your own personality without being intrusive.

I will always have a consultative chat with you before booking in a maternity, family or event photo session to find out more about what you are looking for and to discuss ideas for the photo shoot that are relevant to you and your expectations.

Be it at your home or an agreed location in London, Essex and surrounding areas, the most important thing for me on the shoot is that you (and your family) feel comfortable and at ease, allowing you to forget that the camera's even there and just enjoy spending a few lovely hours that will result in beautiful memories to revisit time and again.

My prices vary depending on the scale of the project, but are always affordable and flexible. A basic 2-hour shoot priced at £200 includes a consultative chat, a brief including ideas and suggestions provided prior the shoot plus 30 lightly edited images provided in high resolution within 14 working days after the shoot. To find out more about how I work and what I can do for you please drop me a line here.

Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you!
